Types of Vegetarianism

ImageThere are several variations of the typical vegetarian diet. Some people consider themselves vegetarian, yet eat seafood. Others see vegetarianism as a diet in which there is no meat or dairy.

Vegetenariams is a broad term that covers a variety of diets, and finding the right diet for you is only a matter of beliefs and preferences.

Semi-Vegetarian: a diet in which seafood and poultry are consumed in limited amounts but other animal flesh is avoided
Pescetarianism: a diet in which the only animals consumed are fish and other seafood
Pollotarianism: a diet in which the only animals consumed are poultry and fowl

Lacto-ovo vegetarianism: a diet in which no animal flesh is eaten, however eggs and dairy are acceptable
Lacto vegetarianism: a diet in which no animal flesh or eggs are eaten, however dairy is acceptable
Ovo vegetarianism: a diet in which no animal flesh or dairy products are eaten, however eggs are acceptable


Veganism:
a diet in which no animal flesh, diary, eggs or honey is eaten; generally vegans do not eat any food that has an animal origin
Fruitarianism: a diet of only fruit, nuts, seeds and other plant matter; generally fruitarians eat food that can be harvested without killing the plant
